What is swine flu? | What are cause,risk factor,symptom,diagnosis and management of swine flu?

SWINE FLU:-

  • Swine flu also known as swine influenza or pandemic influenza is a respiratory disease.
  • It is caused by virus called H1N1 virus (introduce in 2009). This virus infects the wind pipe (respiratory tract) of pigs and laters it gets transmitted to human beings.
  • It results in nasal secretions,cough,decreased appetite,and restless behavior.
Swine flu has an incubation periods (the time taken for the symptom to appear) of 1-4 days.

It symptom are similar to influenza . these include: fever headache,running nose sore thoart, shortness of breath or cough, loss of appetite,diarrhoea or vomiting.

Swine flu can spread to others up to others up to abouts 6 feet away. The flu viruses are spered mainly by droplets when people with flu cough sneez or talk.

Swine flu can be diagnosed clinically by the patients history and their symptoms. The diagnosis may further confirmed in the laboratory through a technique called reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction ( RT-PCR).

Two antiviral agents are helpful in preventing or reducing the effects of swine flu; zanamivir (Relenza) and oseltamivir (Tamiflu).

The most effective way to prevents the spraed of infection is to practice good hygiene. Vaccination against influenza also has some role.
