ENEMA,TYPES OF ENEMA,TEMPERATURE OF ENEMA SIZE OF ENEMA

Definition:-
The administration of a substance in liquid from into the rectum for the evacuation of faeces or for drug administration.

The enema should be administered at room temperature(40.5-43.5).

Quantity should not be more than 100-250 ml while giving retained enema so that rectum is not distended to cause peristalsis.

The small lubricated tube is inserted 3-4 into the adult rectum and 1-1.5 inches into the childs rectum.

Insert suppositories about 4cm into the rectum usually using the index finger.

Normally hang the solution 30cm above the rectum.

12-18 inches or 30-40 cm hejght should be maintained from the bed level for giving high cleaning enema.

20 cm or 8 inches height should be maintained from rectum in retention enema.


Types of enema:-
Carminative enema:-

This type of enema releases tension or swelling in the colon and rectum.when waste builds and sits in the colon a carminative enema allows the waste and toxins to leave the body.

Rentension enema:-
This type of enema is used to administer medication and oil into the patients rectum.the types of oil and medication include nutritive antibiotics and antihelmintics.

For adults -105 °f
For childs- 98.5 °f

Size:- 
For giving cleaning enema use 22 french for adults 14-18 f for school age child and 12°f for an infant.
